Rosemary
This herb is first for a reason because they kept on talking about it. Well, rosemary improves natural hair
growth by improving the circulation of blood in the scalp. This factor ensures that each hair follicle
receives oxygen and the nutrients necessary for its growth. Notably, giving your hair the shine it needs and
maintaining its color. It also contains DHT blockers that prevent hair thinning by preventing the shrinkage
of hair follicles, as a result increasing hair density.
A 2015 comparative study in Phytotherapy Research found
that rosemary oil, compared with minoxidil 2%, had the same effect in increasing the hair count of
androgenetic alopecia after they used it consistently for six months. The research also showed that it had
less scalp irritation than minoxidil.
Cloves
This herb is dandruff’s nightmare, no matter the time of day. For more context, cloves disinfect the scalp.
It contains a compound called eugenol, whose antifungal and antimicrobial properties manage the effect of
the Malassezia fungus(it's responsible for your dandruff).
An article from VeryWellHealth
also says that cloves have anti-inflammatory properties, ensuring a normal hair growth cycle, and help
prevent conditions like dermatitis, dandruff, and scalp psoriasis.
Hibiscus
This is an ayurvedic herb that contains vitamin c which balances the pH of the scalp, and amino acids which
are essential for producing keratin(Protein of the hair).
From the Journal of Ethnopharmacology ,
Hibiscus reduces the resting phase of the hair follicles. For more context, this is the stage where the hair
follicles stay completely inactive to conserve energy for the next growth phase. And when the follicles stay
in that stage for too long before moving to the next stage, they shrink and are damaged. So hibiscus works
by awakening the follicles before they get damaged, and in the process, growing your hair faster.
Fenugreek
Its seeds, boiled with water, create the perfect detangler and conditioner for your hair due to their slippery nature. It contains lecithin and nicotinic acid, which help protect and rebuild the hair’s protective barrier
Chebe
Looking to retain your hair length, then chebe is the herb for you. Apply its mask or butter to the ends of
your hair to seal in moisture and protect your hair strands from damage.
Chebe originates from the Basara women of Chad. Who creates the herb by mixing the seeds of Lavender
crotons, spices, and herbs.
Word of caution about chebe-infused masks of butters: it should not be
applied to the scalp as its thick nature can clog the pores of your follicles and cause intense itching,
which may lead to scalp infections.
Know that growing your hair takes consistency and effort. Science recommends at least 3-6 months of consistent effort, so trust the process on your new haircare regimen and don’t lose hope.
