Can we really Trust Influencers? How Ekow Black was Arrested for what he preached against

ekow-black

Ekow Black was arrested on the 15th of January 2026 over a viral video where he was seen assaulting a woman called Rachel. The nature of the video has left netizens betrayed, as his brand is all about treating women right. So my question still stands, should we trust influencers?

Who Ekow Black really Is

Ekow Black (also known as Christford Affadu Danful ) is a social media personality with a significant following whose main content was about condemning toxic masculinity and showing men how to treat women right. Before the video, we all knew him as the blueprint for our boyfriends and husbands in showing love and affection. Nevertheless, Ekow has betrayed us all, even after apologizing. In his apology, he claimed the video was an old video and that he had resolved his problems with Rachel.

The Viral Video Details

This is where it gets interesting. The video was circulated by Rachel’s friend, who claimed that it was a recent incident that happened late November, 2025, and it was at her house. The friend also shared with the public that she decided to share the video because Ekow’s actions have created some tension between her and her Landlord. And that she wanted to show the world who Ekow Black really is.
In the video that quickly went viral, Ekow was seen repeatedly hitting and calling out to Rachel to leave him alone while holding a phone Rachael wanted.

The Call of Swift Justice by the Public

As the video was making rounds online, a lot of people started tagging the Ghana Police Service. Who, later in an intelligence-led operation in collaboration with the IGP’s Cyber Vetting Team, looked into and arrested Ekow Black a day after the video went viral. I must say that was really fast. The Criminal Investigation Department(CID) also came out with a statement which stated how “No One is Above the Law” and that any form of violence caused by anyone, no matter the popularity or status, will be treated accordingly.
This goes to show that social media should never be underestimated when it comes to calling out what is wrong.

What Ekow Black Case looks like

After the investigations, Ekow’s case took an unexpected turn. As he is now charged with allegations of sextortion, which means that he allegedly tried to release Rachel’s intimate images. Is this the Ekow Black we all know? This unexpected turn has only made his case worse than it already was. So he will now be facing Charges of Assault from the video that circulated, and another charge for sextortion, which was confirmed by the Cyber Vetting Team upon questioning and investigations. It was also confirmed that he was expected to appear in court on January 16, 2026.

Update on His Case and Court Proceedings

So January 16, 2026, after being remanded into Police custody, he appeared before the Adabraka District Court in Accra. The court denied him bail as investigations into the video and the additional charge of sextortion were still not finalized. Nonetheless, on January, 21, 2026, he was granted bail to the tune of GH₵30,000 with two sureties, which allowed his release while the case continued. He also pleaded not guilty primary charge of assault causing harm under Section 84 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), as well as related threats to release intimate images.
He recently reappeared in court on February 10, 2026, and from the videos I watched, he looked really dejected, even though he was wearing a nose mask; you could tell. There are no reports on any new developments in the case, but the trial is still ongoing.

Key Take Away

Ekow Black is still awaiting further legal proceedings. This case really sheds light on the difference between online personas and their real-life personas. Some are genuine, but don’t believe what you see and hear online.
