Wendy Shay and Mentee Tracy Shay, What Really Happened

In the early days of January, 2026, Wendy Shay, a notable musician in the Ghana Entertainment industry, made a post on Tiktok about her frustrations with mentoring young talents, which got everyone talking. The situation has since been resolved, but lets talk about how it played out.

Sista Afia's 10th Aniversary Concert

This whole issue began when Tracy Shay, Wendy Shay’s mentee, took to the stage of Sista Afia’s 10th Anniversary Concert in Koforidua without her mentor’s prior knowledge. In the videos that circulated online at the time, Tracy Shay was seen instructing her adult audience to stand up and dance. This sparked a lot of backlash from the public due to her inappropriateness and disrespect as many put it.

Wendy Shay's Reply on the Situation

Wendy Shay publicly expressed her view on the viral videos, stating that she knew nothing about the booking and Tracy Shay’s performance at the concert. And that if she knew beforehand, she would have prepared her like she always does before they perform together.
She then again expressed her frustration about her mentee’s parents' interference with the plans she has for the girl. In the same video, she explained that the host of the concert, Sista Afia, knew nothing about Tracy Shay's appearance at the event. This was supported by a statement put out by Sista Afia’s management.

Mama Shay's Apeal for respect from Tracy's Parents

Mama Shay, Wendy Shay’s Mother also expressed her views as she labelled Tracy Shay’s actions as disrespectful and also blamed the parents for putting their child out there knowing fully well she wasn’t trained well and most importantly without the approval of Wendy Shay. She also spoke about how such actions can discourage one from helping others, which I'm sure she was refering to her daughter.

Reconciliation between Wendy Shay and Tracy Shay

The issue drew a lot of backlash with fans calling on Wendy shay to withdraw her support and let the girl go. But Wendy Shay publicly forgave Tracy Shay and received apologies from Tracy shay’s parents. Which reaffirmed her full financial and educational support of Tracy Shay.
